noun a word or word group that is used to name a person, place, thing, or idea
pronoun a word that is used in place of one or more nouns or pronouns
adjective a word that is used to modify a noun or pronoun
verb a word that is used to express action or a state of being
adverb modifies a verb, an adjective, or another adverb (tells where, when, how, to what extent)
preposition a word that shows the relationship of a noun or pronoun to another word

proper noun names a particular person, place, thing, or idea and is capitalized

concrete noun names a person, place, or thing that can be perceived by one or more of the five senses
abstract noun names an idea, a feeling, a quality, or a characteristic (cannot by touched)
compound noun consists of two or more words used together as a single noun (may be with a -, a single word, or two words)
collective noun a word that names a group (class, herd, assortment)
personal pronoun refers to the person speaking, being spoken to, or spoken about
reflexive pronoun refers to the subject of a sentence and function as a compliment or object of a preposition
demonstrative pronoun are used to point out a specific person, place, thing, or idea (this, that, these, those)
interrogative pronouns ask/ introduces a question (who, whom, which, what, whose)
relative pronoun introduce a subordinate clause (what, which, whom, whose)
indefinite pronoun refers to one or more persons, places, things, or ideas that may or may not be specifically named (all, another, either, nobody, somebody, several)
demonstrative adjective can function as either pronouns or adjectives/ they modify nouns and pronouns (this, that, these, those)
indefinite articles (a, an) refer to any member of a general group
definite article (the) refers to someone/ thing specific
transitive verb a verb that expresses an action directed toward a person, place, or thing (from subject to object)
intransitive verb a verb that expresses action or tells something about the subject without the action passing to an object (receiver)
action verb express either physical or mental action
linking verb connects subject to a word or word group that identifies/ describes the subject (they are intransitive)
verb phrase consists of at least one main verb and one or more helping verbs (AKA auxilary verbs)
helping verb helps main verb express action or a state of being
coordinating conjunction joins words or word groups that are used in the same way (and, but, or, yet)
correlative conjunction are pairs of conjunctions that join words or word groups that are used in the same way
