Anatomical Position
A person stands erect with feet and eyes forward, Palms face anteriorly, thumbs pointed away from body. Right and left refer to person/cadaver being viewed, not R/L of viewer.

Anatomical Position A person stands erect with feet and eyes forward, Palms face anteriorly, thumbs pointed away from body. Right and left refer to person/cadaver being viewed, not R/L of viewer.
Axial Region The main axis of the body: Head, neck, and trunk. Trunk is divided into Thorax(chest), Abdomen, and Pelvis, trunk also includes the Perineum
Appendicular Region
Appendages or Extremities
Superior/Inferior Toward the Head or upper part of a structure/Away from head or lower part of a structure
Anterior(Ventral)/Posterior(Dorsal) Toward or at the front of the body, front/Toward or at the back of the body, behind
Medial/Lateral Toward the midline of the body, on the inner side of/Away from the midline of the body, on the outer side of
Proximal/Distal Close to the origin or point of attachment of a body part/Farther from origin of body part or point of attachment
Superficial(external)/Deep(internal) toward or at the body surface/away from the body surface, more internal
Ipsilateral/Contralateral Same side/Opposite side
Frontal(Coronal) Plane vertical, divides anterior/posterior
Transverse(horizontal) Plane horizontal R-L, divides body into superior/inferior parts, also called cross sections
Sagittal Plane Vertical, divides into L/R parts. the plane that lies directly at the midline is the Midsagittal plane, all other cuts off set from midline are Parasagittal planes
Oblique Sections Any diagonal cut, hard to interpret, rarely used
