an offense committed against the public good, or society

defendant

a person who is accused of a crime

the party that accuses a person of a crime

the government official who brings the case against the defendant

felony

a major crime

misdemeanor

a less serious crime

infraction

a minor offense that is usually punishable with a fine and not with jail time

the intentional killing of another person

the unlawful touching of another person

an attempt to commit a battery

breaking and entering into a house at night to commit a felony

the unlawful taking of someone's personal property with the intent to keep the property away from that person

the wrongful taking of someone's property by threatening violence or using violence

willful or malicious damage to property
