Chemical Reaction: produces new substances by changing the way in which atoms are arranged.
Reactant: Bonds are broken. The substances present at the beginning of a chemical reaction.
Products: the substances formed by a chemical reaction.
Precipitate: a solid formed in a chemical reaction.
Catalyst: substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction but is not itself consumed in the reaction.
Law of Conservation of Mass: states that in a chemical reaction atoms are neither created nor destroyed.
Coefficients: indicate how molecules take part in the reaction.
Exothermic Reaction: a reaction in which energy is released.
Endothermic Reaction: a reaction in which energy is absorbed.
Bond energy: the amount of energy in a chemical bond between atoms.
Photosynthesis: plants absorb energy from sunlight to turn carbon dioxide and water into oxygen and glucose (nutrition).
Respiration: the "combustion" of glucose to obtain energy.
