Definitions

Active Transport Movement of molecules across a membrane requiring energy to be extended by the cell
Cell Membrane Barrier for the cell. It specializes in letting certain molecules in and out of the cell. It also keeps other materials from every getting in.
Cell Wall Protects the cell from external elements. Gives it definite shape and form. Allows certain substances in or out.
Codominance The heterozygous of this type of inheritance will show both traits
Cytoskeleton A network of fibers that adds support to the cell and give it size and shape.
DNA This contains the genetic information of the cell
Dominant Trait that shows the phenotype if one or two alleles are present
Endoplasmic Reticulum This organelle transfers molecules from one part of the cell to another part.
Eukaryotic cells Cells with a nucleus
False 23: T OR F? There are 46 chromosomes in each human cell after meiosis is complete
False centromere: T OR F? The CENTRIOLE is what holds the sister chromatids together
False Interpahse: T OR F? Cells spend most of their time in this METAPHASE
False Interphase: T OR F? Cells become diploid during PROPHASE II
False Metaphase II: T OR F? Crossing over occurs during ANAPHASE II
False similiar: T OR F? The purpose of mitosis is to create two genetically DIFFERENT cells.
Genotype Letters that represent the alleles present
Golgi Apparatus This receives molecules from different parts of the cell. It will then package them up and send them to new locations in and out of the cell.
Heterozygous Having different alleles for a trait
Homozygous Having the same alleles for a trait
Lysosome This is the organelle that disposes of waste or invaders
Mitochondria This is the organelle that converts energy from food into energy that is unusual within the cell. It is the energy making factory in the cell.
Nucleus The control center of the cell
Passive Transport Diffusion across a membrane requiring only the random motion of molecules with no energy by the cell
Phenotype Physical traits
Prokaryotic cells Cells with no nucleus
Recessive Needs two alleles in order to show the phenotype
Ribosome This is the place that assembles proteins in the cell
Three Number of phenotypes present in co-dominant and intermediate inheritance
True T OR F? Homologous chromosomes are genetically IDENTICAL.
True T OR F? Sister chromatids are genetically identical
True T OR F? Cells are haploid throughout mitosis
True T OR F? The purpose of meiosis is to create genetically different cells to be used for REPRODUCTION
Vacuole The is a storage area for the cell, which usually stores food, water, wastes, and other materials
X Chromosome Most sex-linked traits are found on this chromosome
Mendel This scientist is considered the father of genetics
3 Number of phenotypes present in codominant and intermediate inheritance
