cacophony loud confusing disagreeable sounds

didactic poetry poetry with the primary purpose of teaching or preaching
doggerel a comic verse of irregular measure
envoy a brief stanza concluding certain forms of poetry

eye rhyme Depends on spelling rather than sound; words that look like they should rhyme, but do not (i.e. love and move)
fixed form any form of poem in which the length and pattern are prescribed by previous usage or tradition
found poem a poem that has not been deliberately composed but discovered, by chance, in some other context
implied metaphor Implies or suggests the comparison between the two thing without stating it directly
limerick a humorous verse form of 5 anapestic lines with a rhyme scheme aabba
rising meter unstressed to stressed
falling meter stressed to unstressed
organic form takes shape and pattern from the content of poem itself
prosody the study of poetic meter and the art of versification
masculine rhyme occurs when the rhyme ends on a stressed syllable (i.e. "today" and "sashay")
feminine rhyme occurs when the rhyme ends on an unstressed syllable (i.e. "calling" and "falling")
exact rhyme perfect rhyme, such as buzz and fuzz
picture poem A type of open form poetry in which the poet arranges the lines of the poem so as to create a particular shape on the page.
sentimentality excessive or artificial emotion, emotion unjustified by events
stress/accent the relative prominence of a syllable or musical note (especially with regard to stress or pitch)
syntax the grammatical arrangement of words in sentences
