atrioventricular valve

valve that controls the flow from the atriums to the ventricles

umbilical artery

delivers deoxygenated from the fetus back to the mother

umbilical vein

carries oxygenated blood from the mother to the fetus

renal arteries

carry oxygenated blood from the aorta to the kidney

renal veins

carry deoxygenated blood from the kidney to the inferior vena cava

brachiocephalic artery

carry oxygenated blood from the aorta to the right arm. head, and neck

brachiocephalic vein

formed by the union of the internal jugular and subclavian vein. carries deoxygenated blood back to the right atrium through the superior vena cava.

ductus arteriosus

Connects the pulmonary artery and aortic arch only in fetuses to bypass the fetuses lungs. Receives oxygenated blood from the umbilical vein.

dorsal aorta

large blood vessel along the dorsal (back) region that supplies oxygenated blood to several body parts

external common carotid artery

major artery of the head

external jugular vein

Vein located at the side of the neck that carries blood returning to the heart from the head, face, and neck
