Biomechanics The study of how internal and external forces affect the way the body moves
Eccentric when a muscle exerts less force than is being placed upon it, which results in the lengthening of a muscle
Isometric Muscle action where there is no appreciable change in muscle length
Concentric When a muscle exerts more force than is being placed on it, which leads to the shortening of the muscle
Length-tension relationship Refers to the length at which a muscle can produce the greatest force
Force-couple synergistic action of muscles to produce movement around a joint
Proprioception Information that the nervous system utilizes to gather information about the environment to produce movement
Sensorimotor integration ability of nervous system to gather and interpret information and select and execute the proper motor response
Motor control The study of how the kinetic chain creates movement
Knowledge of performance Provides information about the quality of a movement during an exercise.
