| Nazareth | A town in lower Galilee, the hometown of Mary and Joseph, the human parents of Jesus. Jesus grew up there. The people of this town didn't have a very good reputation |
| SABBATH DAY | God told the Jewish people to rest on the seventh day of each week. There were strict rules about what a Jew could do on this day. It was a day when special attention was given to spiritual matters. |
| synagogue | The place or building where Jews meet together. They pray and read the *Old Testament there. The name for a Jewish house of worship. There was only one temple, but each community had one of these. |
| Messiah | It means the same as Christ. He would deliver Israel from her enemies and restore Israel as a nation. He will put an end to war, for he is the Prince of Peace. |
| Scripture | Another word for the Holy Bible a group of sixty-six books written over a period of more than a thousand years by many different men who were inspired by God. |
| Joseph | He was a carpenter in the town of Nazareth and taught Jesus his adopted son the trade. |
| Elder | In ancient times a group of older men of a community that made all major decisions. Each town had a group. |
| Prophet | A person who can tell other people what God wants. Sometimes one of these would tell people what God had to say to them at the present time. Other times the going to happen before it happened. |
| Rabbi | Means teacher. A teacher of the Jewish religion. Jesus was know as one. |
| ISAIAH | One of the Old Testament prophets who prophesied about the coming of the Messiah. |
| good news' | Same as ''gospel.'' It is referred to in the Bible is this: God so loved the world and only Son, Jesus. Jesus came to take the penalty for our sins, so we that he gave his one an forgiven. |
| Elijah | An Old Testament prophet who worked many mighty miracles. You can read about him in the books of l Kings and 2 Kings |
| ELISHA | A powerful prophet who had been the follower of Elijah. He saw Elijah taken up into heaven and received double the spiritual power God gave Elijah. |
