| Healing of Paralytic | Unable to enter through the door (in Mark's and Luke's account) because of a packed house, four men lowered a paralytic on a mat through the roof to where Jesus was. Jesus forgave the man's sin, causing consternation among the Pharisees and teachers of the law who were there. To demonstrate his authority, Jesus then instructed the paralytic to get up. To everyone's amazement, the man picked up his mat and walked out of the room.(Matt 9:l-8; Mark 2:1-12; Luke 5:17-26) |
| Turning water into wine | This was Jesus' first miracle. Hosts of a wedding in Cana were embarrassed when the wine ran out. Jesus instructed servants to fill six large jars with water, then transformed it into choice wine.(John 2:1-11) |
| Stilling the storm | Jesus and his disciples were in a boat when a furious squall descended on the lake. The fearful disciples woke the sleeping Jesus, who quieted the wind and calmed the sea. Jesus also rebuked the disciples for their lack of faith.(Matt. 8:23-27; Mark 4:35-41; Luke 8:22-25) |
| Restoring demoniac at Gadara | In the region of the Gerasenes Jesus was met by a demon-possessed and violent man (Matthew's account has "men"). The man screamed at Jesus, fearful of being tortured. When Jesus requested his name, he replied "Legion" and begged to not be sent out of the area. Jesus gave the indwelling demons permission to enter some nearby pigs, who then rushed into the lake and drowned. The people of the community urged Jesus to leave the region.(Matt. 8:28-34; Mark 5:1-20; Luke 8:26-39) |
| Raising Jarius' daughter | Jairus, a synagogue ruler, pleaded with Jesus to visit and heal his dying daughter. While en route, word came that she had already died. But Jesus, along with three disciples, continued toward the house. When they arrived, Jesus took the girl's hand and told her to rise. To everyone's amazement, she got up immediately. (Matt. 9:18-26; Mark 5:22-24, 35-43; Luke 8:41-42, 49-56) |
| Restoring of Withered hand | In a synagogue, Jesus met a man with a withered hand. The Pharisees, looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, asked about the lawfulness of healing on the Sabbath. Jesus said it was lawful to do good on the Sabbath, and he told the man to stretch out his hand. He did, and the hand was completely restored. (Matt. 12:9-14; Mark 3:1-64 Luke 6:6-11 ) |
