extended quotation | a long quotation used as support for a speech |
Modern Language Association | an organization that creates the rules and standards for English including the works cited/bibliography page |
logical fallacy | an argument that is not based on sound reasoning |
appeal to authority | providing an audience with arguments that are supported by sources of authority |
attack ad hominem | attacking the person or person's personality instead of discussing the issues |
friendly audience | your audience is in favor of the content of the speech |
appeal to logic | providing an audience with arguments that are supported by fact, sequence and evidence |
propaganda | arguments presented to an audience with no clear evidence |
articulation | saying words clearly |
extended example | a long quotation or story used as an example for a speech |
bandwagon | believing something because everyone else believes it |
audience | people who are listening to your speech or reading your writing |
red herring | presenting materials as evidence in an argument that have nothing to do with the argument |
hostile audience | people who are listening to you or reading your work are not in agreement with your ideas |
credibility | the believability that you have as a speaker |
connotative meaning | the environmental or social meaning of a word...the meaning is different depending on the individual people |
delivery | the techniques that you use to deliver a speech |
