| synagogue | the place or building where Jews meet together. They pray and read the *Old Testament. |
| Moses | a man of God who gave God's rules to the people. |
| Elijah | An Old Testament prophet who worked many mighty miracles. You can read about him in the books of l Kings and 2 Kings. |
| kingdom of God | Where God rules. It also refers to the right God has to rule and the power to rule. Jesus brought this to earth when he came. |
| Peter | This name in Greek signifies a rock, as does also the name Cephas in Syriac. He was one of the twelve apostles, and was also called Simon. |
| James | He was Jesus' brother who became a leader of the church in Jerusalem.. He was an apostle and the author of the New Testament book that bears his name. |
| John | The son of Zebedee and brother of James, He was one of the twelve disciples. He wrote the fourth gospel. |
| Heaven | This is the place where God lives and rules and is with the good angels. It is where Jesus went back to after he left earth, where he is preparing a place for us. |
| Egypt | is a powerful country near Israel. The Nile River runs through this country. The relationship between this country and God’s people goes back many years. |
| Exodus | the time when God led the Jews out of Egypt. |
| sin | when people do not do what God wants; wrong thing that we do or say. |
| God the Father | Creator of the universe. He is the Creator of the human race. He is the as one who takes care of his spiritual children. |
| Temple courtyard | An open area around the outside of the temple. This is where the Gentiles (non-Jews) were allowed to worship God. It was also called the Court of the Gentiles. |
| adultery | One of the things God commands us not to do in the Ten Commandments. It means having sexual relations with someone other than your husband or wife. |
| Ten Commandments | The rules God wrote on stone. God gave these rules to Moses on Mount Sinai, after he brought the people of Israel out of Egypt. |
| Law of Moses | Over 600 laws based on the Ten Commandments. God gave Moses these laws for the people of Israel. |
