arthritis joint (arth) inflammation (itis)
arthroplasty The surgical replacement (plasty) of joint (arthro).
benign tumour A tumour that does not spread to other body parts; it can grow to a large size.
cancer malignant tumour.
closed fracture The bone is broken but the skin is intact; simple fracture.

malignant tumour A tumour that invades and destroyes nearby tissue and can spread to other body parts; cancer.
metastasis The spread of cancer to other body parts.
open fracture The broken bone has come through the skin; compound fracture.
paraplegia Paralysis and loss of sensory function in the legs
quadriplegia Paralysis and loss of sensory function in the arms, legs, and trunk; tetraplegia.
simple fracture Closed fracture
stomatitis Inflammation (itis) of the mouth (stomat)
tetraplegia Quadriplegia
tumour A new growth of abnormal cells; tumours are benign or malignant.
compound fracture Open fracture.
