Definitions

Order of Operation the order in which mathematical operations must be done when more than one operation is involved
Associative Property Changing the grouping of numbers will NOT change the value. For example: (7 + 4) + 8 = 7 + (4 + 8) also works with multiplication
Commutative Property In mult or add, the order of two numbers may be switched around and the answer is the same. Ex: a+b = b+a.
Distributive Property a(b+c)=ab+ac
sum a quantity obtained by addition
quotient the number obtained by division
difference an answer to a subtraction problem
product a quantity obtained by multiplication
absolute value The distance a number is from zero on a number line
exponent a mathematical notation indicating the number of times a quantity is multiplied by itself
squared a number multiplied by itself
cubed The product in which a number is a factor three times.
integer any of the natural numbers (positive or negative) or zero
proportion an equation that states that two ratios are equal
numerator the top number in a fraction
denominator the bottom number in a fraction
repeating decimal a decimal with a sequence of digits that repeats itself indefinitely
