Egg	a caterpillar begins its life as an egg
caterpillar	a worm-like and often brightly colored and hairy or spiny larva of a butterfly or moth
chrysalis	the pupa of a butterfly
pupa	stage in an insect's life between larva and adult, also called a chrysalis
larva	stage in an insect's life after it hatches from the egg also called a caterpillar
butterfly	an insect with a thin body and four large, often brightly colored wings. Butterflies fly in the daytime.
generation	all the butterflies living at the same time or of approximately the same age
life cycle	the stages in an insect or animals life
