It is read-only. Select All Feature Any general structure, characteristic or behavior of an organism. Things like wings, fur pattern, color, migration, etc... Trait The specific expression of a feature in an individual. Things like wing length, density, etc... Inheritance The process of passing genetic info from one generation to the next. Nucleus An organelle in the eukaryotic cell that is surrounded by a membrane which contains a cell's DNA. DNA The blueprint of the cell. This long structure gives the instructions for how the cell functions. This is called inheritance. Chromosomes DNA coiled again into a tight structure. Gene A section of DNA that contains the instructions of a protein. Different genes control different features. Allele The version of the gene. Different alleles can have different traits. Genotype The combo of alleles in an organism's chromosomes represented by 2 letters. Dominant Allele The version of the gene that is more influential. The trait of this allele that will be seen over the recessive allele. Recessive Allele The version of the gene that is more influential. The trait for this allele will be hidden by the dominant allele. Phenotype The trait observed in an organism itself. Homozygous A genotype with 2 identical alleles. It may be 2 dominant or recessive alleles. Heterozygous A genotype with one dominant allele and one recessive allele.
