antagonist the person or thing fighting against the main character of a story
static character (flat) a literary character who remains mostly unchanged throughout a story
dynamic character (round) a literary character who undergoes an internal change during a story

flashback when an author goes back to an earlier time in a story and explains something that will help the reader understand the story better

mood the atmosphere or emotion conveyed by the text
