Aerobic Nonstop, repetitive, strenuous physical activity that increases the breathing and heart rates. Improves cardiovascular and muscular endurance; maintains health of circulatory and respiratory systems
Anaerobic Intense physical activity during which muscles use up more oxygen than the blood can supply. Improves flexibility, improves strength, and sometimes improves speed at which muscles work.
Isotonic Exercise in which muscles contract and relax through the full range of their motion. Develops muscle strength.
Isometric Exercise in which muscles contract without much body movement. Develops muscle strength.
Isokinetic Exercise in which muscles move through a range of motion against a resistance or weight. Enables use of specific muscle groups after illness of injury; develops muscle strength.

body composition Amount of fat compared to lean tissue, such as muscle and bone.
