### THEORETICAL PROBABILITY

P = (event) = number of favorable outcomes
total number of possible outcomes

### COMPLEMENT OF AN EVENT

the collection of possible outcomes not contained in the event.
the sum of the probabilities of an event and its complement is 1

### EXPERIMENTAL PROBABILITY

probability based on experimental data or observations
P (event) = number of times an event occurs
total number of trials

### INDEPENDENT EVENTS

two events are independent if the occurance of one event does not affect the probability of the occurance of the other
If A and B are independent events,
then P(A, then B) = P(A) X P(B)

### DEPENDENT EVENTS

two events are dependent events if the occurrence of one event affects the probability of the occurrence of the other.
If event B depends on event A, then
P(A, then B) = P(A) X P(B after A)

### PERMUTATION

an arrangement of items in a particular order

### FACTORIAL

the product of all positive integers less than or equal to a number is the factorial for that number.
4 factorial is 4! = 4X3X2X1 (24)

### COMBINATION

a grouping of objects in which the order of the objects does not matter
combinations = total number of permutations
number of permutations of smaller group
