false cause A comes before B but does not cause B
hasty generalization assumptions about a whole group based on inadequate sample
weak analogy when two or more things being compared are not alike
false dichotomy (either/or reasoning) situation is setup to look like there are only two choices
ad hominem and tu quoque against the person and you too
appeal to false authority referring to supposed authority to stengthen argument, such as a movie star
ad populum or bandwagon because most people do it or think it
missing the point (non sequitur) the premise of the argument supports the conclusion, but not the conclusion the arguer draws
circular reasoning (begging the question) asks reader to simply accept the conclusion without providing actual evidence
red herring goes on tangent or off on a side issue
slippery slope claim that action will result in unstoppable chain reaction
straw man arguer sets up weak version of opponents position, then uses knock down as claim to strong refutal
