What are the four forces in an atom?

-electromagnetic force
-strong force
-weak force
-gravity

Electromagnetic force

-attract or repel particles (opposites attract, like charges repel)
-keep electrons in orbit (negative electron is attracted to the positive proton)

Strong Force

-opposes the electromagnetic force and glues the protons together to form the nucleus
-greatest of the four forces, but has limited range

Weak Force

-responsible for radioactive decay
-the key to the power of the sun
-changes a neutron into a proton and an electron

Gravity

-the weakest force
-the force of attraction between objects
