subject

~the part that names SOMEONE or SOMETHING (Who or What)
~Contains the TOPIC of a sentence

predicate

~the part that tells what the subject DOES, HAS, or IS
~MUST contain a verb(s)

simple subject

~the key word(s) in the subject part of a sentence
~the topic (subject) of the verb
~a NOUN or PRONOUN

simple predicate

~the key word(s) in the predicate part of the sentence
~the VERB or VERBS= THE DOES, HAS, OR IS WORD(S)

Examples: subject

1.THE BEAUTIFUL EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARK/is popular.
2. MANY BIRDS/have been spotted.

Examples: predicate

1.Many tourists/VISIT THE AREA.
2. The swampy Everglades/IS FLORIDA'S TREASURE.

Example: simple subject

1.The GIRL in the green bathing suit/ swims beautifully.

Example: simple predicate

1. The girl in the green bathing suit/ SWIMS beautifully.
