Cellular Processes

Processes that are carried out at the cellular level, but are not necessarily restricted to a single cell.

Passive Transport

Moving biochemicals and atomic or molecular substances across the cell membrane.

Active Transport

Movement of a substance against its concentration energy.

Obsequious flattery; excessive admiration or praise.

Adversity

A state, condition, or instance of serious or continued difficulty.

Kreb's Cycle

A series of enzymatic reactions in mitochondria involving oxidative metabolism of acetyl compounds to produce high-energy phosphate compounds that are the source of cellular energy.

Glycolysis

A metabolic process that breaks down carbohydrates and sugars through a series of reactions to either pyruvic acid or lactic acid and releases energy for the body in the form of ATP.

Photosynthesis

Synthesis of compounds with the aid of radiant energy (especially in plants).

Chloroplast

Plastid containing chlorophyll and other pigments; in plants that carry out photosynthesis.

Mitosis

Cell division in which the nucleus divides into nuclei containing the same number of chromosomes.
