Both of these verbs can be translated as ''to be'' in Spanish. However, the verbs are NOT interchangeable. Ser can be thought of as characteristics or qualities that are inherent or permanent. In addition, it is used to state dates & time.
In contrast, Estar can be thought of as how or where something or someone is. It describes temporary conditions, location, and is used for making gerunds (-ing words).
