Terms	Definitions
Atom	The smallest particle into which an element can be divided and still be the same substance
Electron	The negatively charged particles found in all atoms
Nucleus	The tiny, extremely dense, positively charged region in the center of an atom
Electron clouds	the regions inside an atom where electrons are likely to be found
Protons	The positively charged particles of the nucleus
Neutrons	The particles of the nucleus that have no charge
Atomic number	The number of protons in the nucleus of an atom.

Elements	A pure substance that is made up of only one kind of atom
Dmitri Mendeleev	Created the first periodic table, arranged elements by increasing atomic mass
Chemistry	The study of matter and the changes that it undergoes
Subatomic Particles	Particles found within the atom, mainly protons, neutrons, and electrons.
Chemical Symbol	A one or two letter representation of an element
