The Gospel of Mark: Chapter 5
1. Jesus heals the Gerasene Demoniac: A man came out of the tombs with an unclean spirit, and with shackles and chains, and he says to Jesus, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?" Jesus asks him, "What is your name?" And the man replies, "My name is Legion; for we are many." And Jesus drives the unclean spirits out of the man, and into the herd of swine upon the hill." 2. The Girl Restored to Life and a Woman Healed: Jesus heals a woman who touches his clothing, and "immediately her hemorrhage stops," and he also heals a little girl who has died, and whom he arouses from "sleep."
The Gospel of Mark: Chapter 6
1. The Rejection of Jesus at Nazareth: And he came into his own hometown, and people were amazed at him, and wondered where this son of Mary got his power, and the people took offense at him. Jesus said to him, "Prophets are not without honor, except in their own hometown." 2. The Mission of the Twelve: Jesus sends his disciples out two by two, carrying no money or food, saying " If the place where you stay doesn't hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony to them." So the disciples went out and proclaimed that all should repent. 3. The Death of John the Baptist: John the Baptist tells Herod, who has married his brother's wife, it is not lawful for him to have his brother's wife Herodias. At a dinner in the palace, when the daughter of Herodias danced, she pleased Herod, and he offered her whatever she wished. She asks for the head of John the Baptist, and Herod, reluctantly, because he fears John, complies, and John's head is brought in to Salome on a platter. John's disciples come, and lay his body in the tomb. 4. Feeding the Four Thousand: Jesus's disciples return from their preaching, and he retires with them to a distant place. But the people see where they have retired and follow them. When it becomes time to eat, seeing there is no place to buy food, Jesus looks on the "Five loaves and two fish" the disciples have, blesses them, looks up to heaven, and the "five and two" become enough for everyone to eat. 5. Jesus Walks on the Water: Jesus walks on the water after a night of prayer, approaching those in a boat laboring to row in a violent wind, but the people do not understand, and harden their hearts toward him. Healing the Sick in Gennesaret: When Jesus and his disciples arrive on the opposite shore, many people rush to him, and bring the sick on mats for him to touch and heal, "and all who were touched were healed."
John the Baptist is imprisoned in the dungeons of King Herod. Herod's 15-year-old step-daughter becomes obsessed with the prisoner's religious passion and is incensed when he ignores her advances. Later in the evening Herod orders his step-daughter to dance for him, but she refuses until he promises her "anything she wants." She asks for the head of John, and eventually receives it.
