Regulated by Hypothalamus, target the Anterior Pituitary

Growth Hormone

Increases Bone and Muscle growth, and Cell turnover rate

Prolactin

Targets Mammary gland for Milk production

Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH)

Tropic hormone, targets Thyroid, synthesis and release of TH

Adrenocorticotropic Hormone (ACTH)

Tropic hormone, growth and secretory activity of adrenal cortex

Luteinizing Hormone (LH)

Gonadotropic, targets ovary and testes for ovulation and testosterone synthesis

Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)

Gonadotropic, targets ovary and testes, follicle development/spermatogenesis

Antidiuretic Hormone/Vasopressin (ADH)

targets Kidney for water retention

Oxytocin

target breast and uterus, milk letdown and uterine contraction

Thyroxine/ Thyroid Hormone (TH)

In children necessary for mental and physical development. In adults increases metabolic rate and temperature

Calcitonin

targets bone and kidney, lowers calcium in serum

Pituitary Thyroid Hormone (PTH)

targets bone, kidney, small intestine, increases calcium in serum

Thymosin

T cell development during childhood

Epinephrine

Sympathetic stress response

Cortisol/Glucocorticoid

Long term stress response; increase blood glucose, increase protein catabolism, decrease inflammation and immunity

Aldosterone

Targets kidney, increase sodium reabsorption to increase blood pressure

Sex Steroids

adrenal tumour can overproduce, causing masculinization or feminization. Otherwise not important

Insulin

Increase uptake of Glucose from blood to be stored as glycogen. (Lower blood glucose level, increase glycogen and fat storage)

Glucagon

Increase blood glucose levels, decrease glycogen and fat storage

Somatostatin

inhibit digestive processes

Testosterone

male characteristics, spermatogenesis

Estrogen

female characteristics, endometrial growth

Progesterone

Endometrial secretion/ pregnancy

Atrial Natriuretic Factor (ANF)

targets kidney to increase urination to decrease blood pressure

Erythropoetin

target bone marrow to increase RBC synthesis
