| cylinder | track that aligns with all the tracks below it |
| land | a flat, reflective area on the surface of an optical disc |
| bit | one binary digit |
| access time | the amount of time required for a disk drive’s read/write head to locate data on the surface of a disk |
| compiler | a program used to translate the source code of a computer program into binary form using only 1’s and 0’s |
| server | a computer that manages data and programs used in a network |
| window | a rectangular, on-screen frame used to view a program or document |
| file extension | tells the computer what kind of file it is |
| vertical application | a type of application software that is designed for a very limited purpose in a field or business |
| copy protection | a physical device or software tool that keeps users from making unauthorized copies of the software |
| site license | a license that allows a group to install software on a specific number of computers for internal use only |
| menu bar | the bar that has many drop-down items |
| horizontal scroll bar | a tool in a word processor that allows the user to scroll left and right |
