the usual mechanism of injury is	direct trauma or FOOSH
usually the shaft of the jumerus fx's but the head or neck of the humerus is vulnerable in pts with	osteoperosis
tx	pts arm is immobilized for 8 wks
pain free ROM exercises for	shoulder, elbow, wrist & hand 3 x per day
pt should be monitored for	signs of radial nerve injury
if the radial nerve is involved,	a wrist splint to avoid flexion contractures
recover of nerve function occurs within	6 mo for 95% of pts
