| Interphase | The cell is in between mitotic divisions. DNA replication occurs. |
| Prophase | Chromosomes become shorter and fatter. Nuclear memberane disappears and the spindle body forms. |
| Metaphase | The chromosomes line up on the wquator of the spindle. Spindle fibers are attached to centromeres. |
| Anaphase | Spindle fibers pull the chromatids to spindle poles. |
| Telophase | Nuclear membranes form around each set of chromosomes. The cytoplasm divides to form to new cells. |
