homeostasis

maitenance of a relatively stable internal environment.

endotherm

animal that creates heat inside its own body.

ectotherm

animal that must receive heat from its external environment.

fermentation

process that converts sugars to inorganic acids & alcohol in the absence of oxygen.

omnivore

animal that eats both plants & animals.

detritivore

animal that feeds on dead plant & animal matter.

foregut

four-chambered stomach found in cows & deer.

hindgut

long intestine called a caecum found in horses & rabbits.
