Definitions

Mendeleev Arranged the elements into rows in order of increasing mass so that elements with similar properties were in the same column.
The Periodic Law The pattern of repeating properties between an element's chemical properties in a certain group.
Atomic Mass it is a value that depends on the distribution of an element's isotopes in nature and the masses of those isotopes.
Metals These types of elements are good conductors of electric current and heat.
Transition Metals These elements form a bridge between the elements on the left and right side of the periodic table.
Nonmetals These elements are poor conductors of heat and electric current. They also have low boiling points. All of these elements in the periodic table are gases.
Metalloids These elements have properties that fall between metals and nonmetals. There abilities to conduct electric current varies with temperature.
Valence Electron This electron is an electron that is in the highest occupied energy level of an atom.
Alkali Metals These metals are located in Group 1A and have a single valence electron and are extremely reactive.
Halogens These elements are located in group 7A and each one of these elements have seven valence electrons.
Noble Gases These elements are located in group 8A and each one of these elements have eight valence electrons. These elements are colorless and odorless and extremely unreactive.
