What do you do when your caught on fire? Stop, Drop, and Roll
what is a theory ? A theory is a well tested explanation for a broad set of observations and experiments.
Independent Variable Factors that can be altered by the experimenter.
Procedure A step by step process used to collect data in an experiment.
Variables Factors that are investigated during an experiment. These are researched and explained.
Conclusion Summery of the findings for an experiment.
Hypothesis An educated guess as to what the cause of something or the outcome of an experiment.
Dependent Variable Factor that changes in response to something the experimenter changed.
Experiment A carefully designed study to explore the effects of one thing on another.
What is matter? Anything that has mass and takes up space.
An Element The simplest form of matter that can't be chemically broken down.
Compounds Composed of two or more elements and can be chemically broken down.
Give an example of a heterogeneous mixture. Soil, Sand, Granite
Give an example of a homogeneous mixture. Shampoo, Salt water
Length the distance between two points and measured in meters.
Volume The amount of space something takes up, measured in liters.
Temperature measure of an average molecule motion, measured in Celsius.
Mass Amount of stuff in something, measured in grams.
What is the first rule to Sig. Figs? 1. All non-zero numbers are significant.
Physical Change A change in state, chemical make-up doesn't change.
Chemical Change Change in chemical composition, atoms rearrange to make a new substance.
What is accuracy? How close you get to the actual value.
What is precision? How spread out the data is.
What is a solid? Ordered and dense, has a definite shape and volume. slightly compressible.
What is a liquid? Disordered and usually slightly less dense. Has a definite volume and takes the shape of the container. Slightly compressible.
What is gas? Disorderly and much lower density than a crystal or a liquid. Does not have a definite shape and volume. Highly compressible.
What is the second rule to Sig. Figs? All zeros between non zeros are significant.
What is the third rule to Sig. Figs? 3. Trailing zeros are only significant if the number has a decimal point.
What is the fourth rule to Sig. Figs? 4. Zeros before the first non-zero digits are NOT significant.
