 Heredity | The passing of genetic traits from parent to offspring |
| Gregor Mendel | An Austrian monk who discovered the principles of heredity while studying pea plants |
| Dominant Trait | A trait that will appear, overriding or covering over another form of that trait when they are both inherited |
| Recessive Trait | A trait that is covered over by a dominate trait and seems to disappear |
| Gene | One set of instructions for an inherited trait located on a chromosome and can be dominate or recessive |
| Allele | One of the alternative forms of a gene that determines characteristics |
| Phenotype | An organism's physical appearance or visible characteristics as determined by the genotype |
| Genotype | The entire genetic makeup of an organism; the combination of genes for one or more |
| Homozygous | Refers to alleles that are either both dominate or both recessive |
| Heterozygous | The description of a genotype when one of the alleles is dominant and one is recessive |
| Probability | The mathematical chance that something will happen, often written as a fraction or percentage |
