Absolutely Positoned Elements (AP elements) parts of an HTML page which have a fixed position assigned to them. AP elements are generally referred to as div tags and may contain text, images, or any other content which may be placed in an HTML document. Absolute Link A link which takes the user to a Web page on the internet outside of the current web document root folder Action A component of a behavior which preforms tasks based on an event Active Link Links which appear with some kind of formatting applied the moment the user clicks them Alpha transparency A feature of PNG images which allows multiple levels of transparency on irregular shaped, or blended edge images Behavior A Web Page feature in which an action takes place based on various events CS Live A set of online services that allows the user to work with Dreamweaver CS5 throught the Web Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) declarations and rules which describe how a document should be presented on the Web Cell an area within a table used to contain data, formed by the cross section of of a row anda column Check box an interactive control often found in graphical user interfaces Class selector A custom style that can be applied to any HTML tag Cloaking A tool used in Dreamweaver which allows the a user to select files that do not need to be updated to a Web server Compound Selector A tool which defines formatting of two or more HTML tags, classes, or IDs at the same time. Design Notes A feature in Dreamweaver which allows multiple users to communicate using notes which may be attached to selected files Div An element used in conjunction with CSS and HTML Web documents which adds structure to documents by designating specified areas for different actions of formats DocType A tag that lets a browser know what type and which version of HTML and XHTML is being used Document Toolbar A toolbar, which contains buttons, that allows users to toggle between different views of a document quickly. It also contains some common commands and options relating to viewing the document and transferring between remote sites Drop-Down Menu A Menu that drops from the Menu Bar when requested and remains open without further action until the user closes it or chooses a menu item Event An input which signals for an action to begin within a behavior File Check-out/Check-in A feature which assists in a collaborate environment to manage files. This option allows only one person to work on a file at a time, in order to prevent overwriting of multiple changes. Form ID A costumizable name which is given to a form created by a user Graphic Interchange Fromat (GIF) the image format used commonly for Web images. Images are transferred pixel by pixel over the Internet, and have a maximum of 256 colors Hyperlink A method of moving between one Web page and another by clicking on a button or a portion of text which opens the link ID selector A tool which redefines the look of a specific HTML tag Image Link A link which may be accessed by clicking an image on the page, including buttons Image map A list of coordinates relating to a specific image created in order to hyperlink areas of the image, of hotspots, to various destinations Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) a compression of algorithm for condensing the size of image files by subdividing and simplifying complex images. JPEG images are commonly used for photographic quality images over the internet Library Items A collection of user-defined actions may be applied to elements within a Dreamweaver CS5 document in order to preserve consistency and reduce time spent formatting individual elements Link An object on a Web that, when clicked, directs a user to another location on the Web Meta Tag An HTML tag not displayed on a Web page, but that identifies information about the page Named Anchor A type of link which connects users to different sections within a single Web page Optional Region A Function used to control content that may or may not be displayed in a template-based document. There are two types: noneditable and editable Portable Network Graphics (PNG) a bitmapped image format that employs lossless data compression. It was created to improve upon and replace GIF as an image file, and replace gray scale, 256 color, true color images, and alpha transparency Panels A feature which is used to add or edit content on a page Plug-in A component of a Web page which requires applications from outside sources, including media players Property Inspector A tool which allows users to examine and edit most common properties for the currentlyselected page element. The contents of it vary depending on the element selected Quick Tag Editor A button of Dreamweaver Property Inspector that allows a user to easily edit HTML code in a document without entering code view Remote Server A network of computers that allows many users to log onto one location. It houses files needed to build and create a Web site Rollover Images Images which change when a mouse is placed over an image Script A function which processes form data and and sends it to the Webmaster Selector The Portion of a CSS rule which defines and selects the elements which will have styles applied to them Spry Effects A collection of visual enhancements which may be applied to elements within Dreamweaver CS5 document Status Bar A toolbar which provides additonal information about the document being created Strict Doc Type A Doc Type code that follows strict up-to-date standards and does not allow deprecated tags Style Rule A feature made up of two parts: the selector and the declaration. The selector identifies the element to be formatted and the declarations describe formating properties and values Style Sheet A collection of formattiong rules Table A logical method organizing and arranged data, text, or other objects by dividing them into seperate rows and columns Tag Selector A Dreamwever feature that allows the a user to easily edit the HTML code in a document without entering code view Target Audience The primary group of people to whom a Web site that will be sent to the creator of the page when submitted Text Field/Text Area Areas which allow users to type in information on a web page that will be sent to the creator of the page when submitted Transitonal Doc Type a code that allows up-to-date standards as well as deprecated tags Extensible Hyprtext Markup Language (XHTML) a language which combines the HTML and XML languages to describe the content and structure of Web page
