Explain how discipleship and consecration influence our dating, courtship, and marriage.
- According to Elder Holland, "If you want compatibility and safety during dating and romance, believe that your faith has everything to do with your romance, because it does." Obedience, consecration, and sacrifice are the core of discipleship.
- "Jesus Christ, the Light of the World, is the only lamp by which you can successfully see the true path of love and happiness for you and your sweetheart."
Describe how faith, hope, and charity are relationship principles.
Faith - in eternal marriage
"You want capability and safety in dating and romance, in married life and eternity? ...Believe that your faith has everything to do with your romance, because it does."
Discipleship produces faith "where unshakable faith is not there faith is weak..."
Charity - "Christlike staying power in romance and marriage requires more than we naturally have. The love we each yearn for and cling to, is bestowed upon true followers of Christ."
Describe the difference between becoming and doing in our discipleship.
the final judgment is not just an evaluation of a sum total of good and evil acts - what we have done. It is an acknowledgement of the final effects of our acts and thoughts - what we have become.
we should remember that our family relationships - even more than our Church callings - are the setting in which the most important part of that development can occur. The conversion we must achieve requires us to be a good husband and father or a good wife and mother...exaltation is an eternal family experience, and it is our mortal family experiences that are best suited to prepare us for it.
