schizophrenia | a group of severe disorders characterized by disorganized and delusional thinking, disturbed perceptions, and inappropriate emotions and actions |
depression | The condition of feeling helpless, hopeless, and withdrawn from others. |
psychotherapy | an ongoing conversation between a patient and a mental health professional, counseling, talk therapy |
option | the act of choosing or selecting |
outcome | the result of an option, positively or negatively |
value | the quality (positive or negative) that renders something desirable or valuable |
passive behavior | the holding back of your ideas, feelings, and decisions |
assertive behavior | Expressing your personal preferences and defending your personal rights while respecting the preferences and rights of others. |
aggressive behavior | the use of words or actions that are disrespectful toward others |
endorphins | body's natural pain killers resulting from physical activity, laughing, crying |
serotonin | neurotransmitter that affects sleep, arousal, mood, appetite; lack of it is linked with depression |
metaphorical thinking | the use of analogies to help create visual or verbal understanding |
suicide | the act of intentionally taking one's own life - leading cause is untreated depression |
intervention | to make a change, to stop a behavior from happening |
modality for suicide | having a plan: is it specific, lethal, available? |
prediction | what you think will happen based on fact |
resilient | how fast you can adjust to something that has happened in your life |
life change | something that happens that requires you to make an adjustment in your life |
risk | the likelyhood of an unwanted result |
