Continental System
This was Napoleon's plan to destroy the British economy. He planned to shut off all continental European ports to British trade. It backfired as the British blockaded those ports so continentals could not trade with themselves.

Continental System This was Napoleon's plan to destroy the British economy. He planned to shut off all continental European ports to British trade. It backfired as the British blockaded those ports so continentals could not trade with themselves.
Blockade This is a technique of war in which a country uses ships to cut off trade entering or leaving a port.
Peninsular War This was a war in Spain between 1808 and 1812 between French forces and Spanish guerillas. It started when Napolon sent troop sthrough Spain to Portugal. The Spanish were able to force the French to expend many troops and resources.
Alexander I Russian czar who defied Napoleon's plan to defeat Britain in 1812. Napoleon quickly invaded his country.
Scorched- earth Tactic used by a retreating army in which they destroy anything that the advancing enemy could use as they retreat.
Grand Army The name of Napoleon's force that invaded Russia. He began with 420, 000 men capable of fighting and ended with less than 10,000.
Leipzig Battle in Germany in October of 1813 in which Britain, Russia, Prussia, and Sweden defeated Napoleon.
Abdicate This means to step down from power
Hundred Days Napoleon's last bid for power in France. March 1- June 20, 1915
Guerrilla From the Spanish word meaning "little war", these were small units of fighters who used hit and run tactics against larger forces.
Waterloo This was the last battle of Napoleon in which he was defeated by British and Prussian forces in Belgium. June 18- 20, 1815
Duke of Wellington British general who defeated Napoleon in his last battle at Waterloo.
