in the book Fahrenheit 452 what is the metaphor and what does it mean? | In the book F451 books are forbidden in Montag's society. In the society "a book is a loaded gun in the house next door."That means that a book is as dangerous as a loaded gun. Both of them could kill or seriously injure you. It also controls the key to make one person smarter than the other. When somebody is smarter than their neighbor, they are not equals. Books were weapons because they could destroy societies and make others nonequivalent. |
Explain Faber | In the book Fahrenheit 451, Faber is a very important character. He represents knowledge because when he was in his thirties he was a writing teacher. He also represents pureness. His allusions is white which represents goodness. He had white hair, a white face white walls, and a white beard. Faber helped Montag purify himself also which is a very big deal. |
Explain Faber's opinions on why the society is so messed up | In the book Fahrenheit 451 Faber thinks society is extremely corrupt. What had happened to the society is that at first everyone wanted to be equals so they replaced books with little snippets from the actual books so it made reading fast. Then they started lacking the three things: quality of the information, leisure to digest it, and the right to carry out actions based on what we learned from the interaction of the first two. Then people realized they were in trouble because they did not have the three things but they were to lazy to fix it. Faber believes that the only way to make society better is to bring back the books. |
Montag killing beatty and now understanding him | In the book Fahrenheit 451, Montag is a firefighter who secretly loves books but cannot tell many people or he would be killed or arrested. The fire chief, Captain Beatty also secretly loves books. Captain Beatty tries to arrest Montag after they burn his house for having books. Montag then burns Beatty to death with the flame thrower. Montag then comes to one sudden realization: Beatty wanted to die. He must have taunted Guy purposefully to make him commit murder. Now Montag feels guilty. Beatty knew Montag was going to kill him, and rather than making him stop or dodging the flames, Beatty stood still, waiting for death. |
montag and his wife and their relationship | In the beginning of the book, Montag thinks his relationship with his wife is well. Except when he meets Clarisse, his view and perspective of their relationship is very different. He realizes that Mildred and him live very different lives. They have no affection in their relationship. HE does not love her. They are just two people living in the same house. Montag realizes he is not happy and he thinks that it is not even a marriage at all. Mildred would rather spend time talking to the TV with her "family" than him. The TV drains everything they have in common and makes them drift apart_meeting Clarisse made him realize he and his wife live different lives. (concerned during the stomach pump-not scared) wouldn't be hurt if she died. |
Atticus | Scout and Jem's father, a lawyer in Maycomb descended from an old local family. A widower with a dry sense of humor, Atticus has instilled in his children his strong sense of morality and justice. He goes to great pains to instruct his children on the importance of being open-minded, judicious, generous neighbors and citizens. He is eventually revealed to be an expert marksman, but he had chosen to keep this fact hidden from his children so that they would not in any way think of him as a man of violence. He was once the best shot in Maycomb County, but quit shooting because he felt he had an unfair advantage. He is one of the few residents of Maycomb committed to racial equality. When he agrees to defend Tom Robinson, a black man charged with raping a white woman, he exposes himself and his family to the anger of the white community. With his strongly held convictions, wisdom, and empathy, Atticus functions as the novel's moral backbone. |
mockingbird: what is the sin? why is it a sin? and who does it make you think of and why? | The sin of the book, to Kill a Mockingbird, is to kill a mockingbird. When they get there bebe-guns, Atticus says they could shoot at cans and blue jays when they get better, but to never shoot a mockingbird because all they do is make music and bring goodness to the world. In the book, Tom Robinson is the mockingbird because he did nothing wrong, he didn't hurt anybody, but he was said to be guilty of a rape charge. The punishment to a rape charge for him was death. Also Arthur Radley was a mockingbird, because people accused him of terrible things and made up terrible rumors about him when he had never done anything wrong. All he did was give presents to Jem and Scout, put a blanket on Scout when she was cold, and save their lives for nothing in return. Mockingbirds only share their beautiful songs with us and take nothing for return. It would be a sin to kill a mockingbird. |
give 2 examples for each theme: loss of innocence | Jem: When Jem told Atticus the Dill ran away from home because he did not want Aunt Sally and Dill's mom to be worried. Dill: his loss of innocence comes at the trial. As a child, he can not believe how mean the prosecutor treats Tom Robinson. He is so upset that he and Scout leave the courthouse. Dolphus Raymond tells them, "you haven't seen enough of the world yet... You haven't even seen this town, but all you gotta do is steo back inside the courthouse." |
give 2 examples for each theme:isolation&courage | Boo Radley: he was isolated by his father who mistreated him. He stayed by himself in his house. He did not want to go out in public. Even so, he was willing to leave the security of his home to save Jem and Scout from Bob Ewell. Calpurnia: Calpurnia was also isolated. She lived with the Finches and so was cut off from the black society most of the time. She really could not socialize with fellow African Americans in the neighborhood in which she lived. |
give 2 examples for each theme:injustice | Tom: Tom Robinson was innocent but was convicted because he was African American. The justice system of the time would not allow blacks to serve on a jury, so Tom did not truly have a jury of his peers. He got a racist jury who convicted him because they would not go against his white accusers. Boo: Boo Radley is treated with injustice throughout his life. His father's unfair treatment causes him to become a recluse who the town views as creepy. The townspeople spread false rumors about him and the evil things he has done. |
give 2 examples for each theme:integrity in the face of injustice | Atticus: Atticus stood by his word and chose not to fall into being a racist. While most of the townspeople hated and accused African Americans, Atticus stood by his values and defended them. For example, when Judge Taylor assigned him to the task of defending Tom Robinson, Atticus actually gave it his all and never gave up even though he knew what the outcome would be. Mr. Underwood: Mr. Underwood stood by his beliefs throughout the novel. When the lynch-mob came to the jail and confronted Atticus, Mr. Underwood was ready to defend Tom and Atticus with his shotgun. When Tom was killed attempting to escape, Mr. Underwood wrote and described Tom death in an editorial as a, "senseless slaughter of songbirds by men." |
give 2 examples for each theme:human kindness in the face of injustice | African American Community in the Reaction to the verdict: The African Americans in the novel were struck by the loss of Tom's case. Added to this they knew they would continue to face racism. In spite of this, they remained strong and showed their respect for Atticus by standing up when he left the courthouse. Then the day after the verdict, blacks gave the Finch family food and gifts to thank him for giving the case his all. Heck Tate: At the end of the novel, Heck Tate shows his kindness to Boo Radley. Tate insists that Bob Ewell's death was a result of Ewell falling on his own knife. He knows that Boo actually killed Bob Ewell while saving Scout and Jem. He shows compassion for Boo because he knows that Boo could not stand all the attention and just wants to live in peace. |
give 2 examples for each theme:Bravery | Atticus: Atticus is brave to defend a black man in the face of criticism and threats of violence. He also is brave in the face of danger, both when he kills the rabid dog with a single shot and when facing the mob outside the jailhouse. Atticus urges Scout to be brave and avoid fighting those who criticize her or her family. Boo Radley: Boo Radley shows bravery by leaving the confines of his house to help Scout and Jem. He is concerned for their well being and watches the children. The bravest thing shy Boo Radley does is protect the Finch children. |
give 2 examples for each theme:disparity between appearance and reality | Boo Radley: In the town of Maycomb, Boo Radley is perceived as a creepy, inferior kid and someone who is dangerous as well as scary. However, as the novel progresses, it is revealed that Boo actually is a shy, kind man who is compassionate for others. Dolphus Raymond: Dolphus Raymond is thought to be a drunk, but in reality he is a sober man, pretending to be drunk. The only way the people of Maycomb County can accept the fact that he enjoys the company of African Americans over the company of white folks is if he is drunk. The citizens of Maycomb believe that it is because he is under "whiskeys grasp" that he is married to his African American wife. |
give 2 examples for each theme:need to walk in another persons shoes | Atticus: Atticus repeatedly "walks in the shoes of others." After Bob Ewell spits on him, Atticus tells Jem that "if you can stand in Bob Ewell's shoes a minute," Jem would understand why Atticus was not upset. He explains Ewell had to have a comeback to save his credibility. Atticus also felt for Mayella and understood that she accused Tom Robinson to save herself from her father's abuse. Scout: Near the beginning of the book, Atticus tells Scout, "climb into his skin and walk around in it", but it is not until the very end of the book that Scout finally understands her father. After she walks Boo home, she finally can see his world from his perspective. |
What does John Keets life and the poem have to do with each other? | John Keats was the author of "The Nightingale." In his life his brother died of Tuberculosis. The poem and his life have a lot to do with each other. He wrote the poem while he was dyeing of Tuberculosis. He is pretty much writing how he is accepting his own death. He is telling the nightingale that it's song will last forever but he will not. This is saying how he is accepting his own death. |
symbolism and tyger on the tyger poem | The poem is talking about the tiger and who created it. When Blake wrote this poem he was confused a little bit. He was wondering if the same God that made the lamb could have possibly made the tiger as well. The lamb is very sweet and innocent but the tiger is mean. He was wondering why evil exists in the world if God made the earth. "The Tyger" is a romanticism poem. It is romanticism because it is taking the Tyger which is equivalent to an animal and raising it up and comparing it to Jesus. |
