LAN- Local Area Network can only be used in a house or building
WAN- Wide Area Network can only be used through a big range like throughout the state or around the world
ISP- Internet Service Provider a company that offers its customer's access to the internet.
http- Hyper Text Transfer Protocol a networking protocol for distributed, collaborative, hypermedia information systems.
URL- Uniform Resource Locator specifies where an unidentified source is available and the mechanism for retrieving it.
CPU- Central Process Unit the processor is the portion of a computer system that carries out the instructions of a computer program, and is the primary element carrying out the computer's functions. The unit that reads and executes program instructions.
RAM- Random Access Memory access memory a form of computer storage
HTML- Hyper Text Mark-up Language language for web pages; it allows images and objects to be embedded and can be used to create interactive forms
KB- Kilobyte a multiple of the unit of information used to quantify computer memory or storage capacity. It can store up to one thousand bytes.
MB- Megabyte a multiple of the unit byte for digital information storage or transmission with two different values depending on the context. It can store up to one million bytes.
GB- Gigabyte a unit of information used to quantify computer memory or storage capacity. It can store up to one billion bytes.
GUI- Graphical User Interface type of user interface that allows users to interact with programs more way than typing such as computers; hand-held devices such as MP3 players; etc.
TCP/IP- Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol this allows you to transmit information from your computer to the internet
OOP- Object Oriented Programming it reduces lines of code, and it increases reuseability
CAD- Computer Aided Design Use of computer technology for the process of design and design-documentation
CGI- Computer Generated Imagery computer graphic effects in films, television programs, and other visual media.
DSL- Digital Subscriber Line a family of technologies that provides digital data transmission over the wires of a local telephone network.
FTP- File Transport Protocol is used when a user needs to transfer a large file.
OCR- Optical Character Recognition using a type of writing and saving it to recognize as a regular font
SEO- Search Engine Optimization helping raise your status or profile in a search engine
SMTP- Simple Mail Transfer Protocol is used for email
SSL- Secure Sockets Layer an extra layer of security for the users to feel more comfortable to use it and so that others cannot steal your information
VOIP- Voice Over Internet Protocol a way to send your voice over the internet
VPN- Virtual Private Network can use the network from dialing in from a different place that is not so local
WYSIWYG- What You See Is What You Get used in computing to describe a system in which content displayed during editing appears very similar to the final output, which might be a printed document, web page, slide presentation, or even the computerized lighting for a theatrical event.
