### Describe the difference b/t temp. and heat

Temp:Measures amount of kinetic energy. how much particles are moving.
Heat: The transfer of energy to one place to another.

### Describe how temp. depends on k.e

Temp. is the averge amount of k.e, if there was no k.e there would be no temp. the amount of k.e goes up, temp. increases.

### What tools and units are used to measure tempature?

Theremometer...Farenhiet....Celsius... Calvin for extreemmee temps.

### how do changes in temp. affect matter?

Temp. affects particles which effect the state of matter. take energy away, particles move slower--->freeze. You give energy, particles move faster---> melt.

### Describe what thermal expansion is and how it happens.

Thermal expansion is... as something gets warmer it expands. as a subtance expands particles are moving faster and need room to expandd.

### Explain the units used to measure heat. And how big it is.

Calorie:amount of energy to raise one gram of water by 1 degree celsius.
Joule: 1 calorie=1.48 joules.

### What is S.H(specific heat), and why do some subtances change temp. more easily than others.

a-amount of energy to raise the temp...(amount of energy to raise 1 gram of water by 1 degree celsius.
b-a substance with a high specfic heat value like water.. not onlly has to absorb a large quantity of energy for its temp. to decrease.
low s.h--> heats up faster.
Pan has low s.h so it heats up faster with water in it that has a high specific heat.

Convection-movement that transfers particles.
Conduction-direct touch.
Conduction and convection are only too that move through space.

Conductor= allows heat to transfer energy--low s.h.
Insulator-reduces the transfer of heat.--high s.h

Becuase at 1st the continents fit togather, and slowley drifted apart. why? because the plates are moving and the mantle is moving and the continents are attached to the plates.
