Poetry

An art form in which language is used for its, musical, emotional and magical qualities in addition to, or instead of, its dictionary meanings

Prose

Ordinary language people use in speaking or writing

Rhyme

Repetition of the same or similar sounds at the end of words

Internal Rhyme

A word in the middle of a line has the same ending sound as a word at the end

Rhythm

The metrical flow of sound based on stressed and unstressed syllables in a line.

Stanza

A paragraph in poetry.

Idiom

Suggestive (non-literal) expression used by a specific group of people

Alliteration

Repetition of the same or similar consonant sounds at the beginning of words

Onomatopoeia

Naming a thing or an action by imitating the sound associated with it

Hyperbole

Exaggeration for humor or emphasis
