industrialization When a country begins manufacturing materials using factories.
Luddites A group of British workers who attempted to sabotage machines to save their jobs.
consumption Any lung disease, especially from mining or textile manufacture.
urbanization Moving into and expanding cities.
Irish potato famine Millions of Irish people died or emigrated when a blight on potatoes caused their crops to fail.
Congress of Vienna A group of nations who met in an attempt to prevent another Napoleon-like takeover of Europe.
Metternich Conservative leader of the Congress of Vienna and the Concert of Europe.
Concert of Europe Follow-up to the Congress of Vienna. This group of nations attempted to keep the legitimate monarch ruling each nation.
Romanticism A period when people valued emotion over reason.
