| Coordinates | Numbers used to measure a location's latitude and longitude (ex: Bethlehem's= 41 N, 75 W). |
| Elevation | A location's height relative to sea level. |
| Equator | The middle line of latitude, measuring 0 degrees and dividing the globe into N and S hemisphere. |
| Grid Map | A map with X and Y axis, where locations are usually identified with a letter and number. |
| Latitude | Imaginary lines that run flat and parallel to each other across the globe. They help measure N / S |
| Legend | Also called key, this feature on a map shows symbols and their meanings. |
| Longitude | Imaginary lines that run up and down the globe, intersect at the poles, and help measure E / W |
| Physical Map | A map that shows mountains, hills, plains, rivers, lakes, oceans, etc. |
| Political Map | A map showing units such as countries, states, provinces, districts, etc. Each is normally a different color |
| Prime Meridian | The middle line of longitude, measuring 0 and dividing the globe into E / W hemispheres. |
| Scale | A feature on a map showing the ratio between length on the map and distance in real life. |
| Thematic Map (Special Purpose) | A map showing things like economic activity, migration, battles and changing national boundaries |
| Symbols | Represent items on a map like capital cities, mountain peaks, or economic activities |
| Location | Tells where you are, sometimes "absolute" using lat. and long., sometimes "relative" using other areas as a reference. |
| Region | An area having certain shared characteristics that set it apart, like political division, climate, language or religion. |
| Place | Refers to the physical and human characteristics that make one area different from another. |
| Movement (migration) | The shifting of people, goods, and ideas from one area to another. |
| Interaction (Human/Environment) | Refers to the ways people affect and are affected by their environment (ex: building a dam, cutting down trees.) |
