Central Nervous System | The brain and spinal cord. It organizes and evaluates information |
Peripheral Nervous System | Consists of all other nerve cells in the body, includes the somatic and autonomic nervous systems. Its job is to transmit information to the CNS. |
Frontal Lobe | Essential for planning, movement, & executive control systems |
Executive Functioning | Is used for making plans and decisions. |
Hippocampus | Important for certain types of learning and memory. |
Cerebellum | Essential for movement, role in learning, operates independently and unconsciously.(driving while talking on the phone). |
Hypothalamus | Receives and projects input to almost everywhere in the brain and body. Vital for temperature regulation, emotion, thirst, hunger, and motivation. |
Amygdala | Learning to associate things with emotional responses and in processing emotional information. Anger, fear, sadness. |
Occipital Lobe | Important for vision, in back of brain. |
Parietal Lobe | Important for sense of touch, Somatosensory. |
Temporal Lobes | The brain region responsible for hearing. |
Somatic Nervous System | Transmits sensory signals to the CNS through nerves. |
Autonomatic Nervous System | Regulates the body's internal enviornment by stimulating glands and maintaining internal organs. |
Corpus Callosum | Is like a massive bridge of axons that connects the hemispheres and allows information to flow between them. |
