Night Blindness -Impairs the ability to drive at night
-Cause: Vitamin A deficiency
Color Blindness -caused by lack of cones
-most common is the lack of green/red receptors
-most common in males
Cataracts -occurs during aging causing the lens to harden and become less clear
-Treatment: surgical removal of lens with transplant or cataract glasses
Glaucoma -pain and blindness caused by the increase in pressure due to the blockage of the aqueous humor
-common cause of blindness
-Treated with eye drops to increase the rate of aqueous humor drainage
Myopia nearsightedness
Hyperopia farsightedness
Astigmatism blurry images
Conjunctivitis -(inflammation)
-known as "pink eye"
-highly contagious
-red, irritated eyes
-caused by bacteria or viruses
