asphyxia Condition caused by insufficient intake of oxygen
asthma chronic respiratory disease in which the air passageways become narrower than normal
atelectasis collapse of an expanded lung (especially in infants)
bronchitis inflammation of the membranes lining the bronchial tubes
cavitation The formation of cavities within a tuberculous lung as a result of the necrotic material within a tubercle being sloughed off into an adjacent bronchiole.
cyanosis a bluish discoloration of the skin and mucous membranes
emphysema an abnormal condition of the lungs marked by decreased respiratory function
empyema a collection of pus in a body cavity (especially in the lung cavity)
laryngitis inflammation of the mucous membrane of the larynx
pleurisy inflammation of the pleura of the lungs (especially the parietal layer)
Rhinitis an inflammation of the mucous membrane lining the nasal passages (usually associated with nasal discharge)
Sinusitis inflammation of the sinuses, hollow cavities connected by passageways to the nose in a bone
Pharyngitis Inflammation of the pharynx; also known as a sore throat.
Tracheitis bacterial infection of the windpipe (trachea)
Bronchitis inflammation of the membranes lining the bronchial tubes
Laryngitis inflammation of the voice box (larynx)
carbon monoxide poisoning Poisoning caused by the production of CO by the incomplete combustion of burning materials. It is inhaled and displaces O2 on the hemoglobin molecule, causing hypoxia, carbosyhemoglobinemia, and ultimately death when levels are too high; characterized by a cherry-red discoloration
