epiphany

term used to describe a moment of revelation or insight in which a character recognizes some truth

in media res

a storytelling technique used in epic poems; in Latin it means "in the middle of things"

rhyme scheme

regular pattern or rhyming words in a poem or stanza

meter

a poem's rhythmical pattern, which is determined by the number and types of stresses, or beats, in each line

free verse

poetry not written in a regular rhythmical pattern or meter

prose, poetry, drama

the three major types of literature

iambic pentameter

the type of poetry meter in which one foot contains one unstressed syllable followed by one stressed syllable

ballad

a songlike poem that tells a story, often one dealing with adventue or romance
