adverb a word that describes an adjective, adverb, or verb
adjective a word that describes a common noun, proper noun, or pronoun

action verb shows physical or mental action

interjection a word that expresses a strong emotion
coordinating conjunctions (CC) words that connect words, phrases, or clauses
FANBOYS for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so = CC
Independent Marker Words (IM) connects two independent clauses or it can stand alone at the beginning of a sentence
independent clause a complete sentence
alliteration two or more repetitions in a row of the starting sound of words
personification literary device - giving things human characteristics
idiom literary device - expression that does not mean literally what it says
hyperbole literary device - compares two things using exaggeration
imagery literary device - 5 senses = using sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell as ways to help describe
metaphor literary device - compares two things that are different but have something in common
simile literary device - compares two things that are different but have something in common - must use like or as
onomatopoeia literary device - the use of a word whose sound conveys its meaning
symbolism literary device - the use of an object to represent an abstract concept
allusion literary device - reference to a real event or character outside of the literary work
sentence group of words that expresses a complete thought - must have a subject and predicate
