electrical system conduction system of the heart is the anatomic structure that controls the sequence of muscle contractions so that an ooptimal volume of blood is pumped from the heart with each beat.
dysrhythmia Sometimes called arrhythmia. Occurs when there is a disturbance of the normal electrical conduction, resulting in an abnormal heart muscle contraction or heart rate.
atrial flutter cardiac arrhythmia where atrial contractions are rapid but regular, p waves have saw toothed pattern
atrial fibrillation Electrical impulses move randomly throughout the atria, causing the atria to quiver instead of contracting with a normal rhythm.
paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia electrical impulse reenters the heart over and over.
atrioventricular blocks dysrhythmias that result from obstruction of conduction pathways and are described by location.
tinnitus ringing in the ears.
